In 1886 some well-to-do gentlemen named Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Pulitzer and Morgan decided to invest in a warm weather hideaway club for themselves and the enjoyment of their like-minded friends. This mutual investment formed the Jekyll Island Club. During this age of “Robber Barons” the members here collectively controlled 1/6 of the world’s economic output. Today the beaches are just as golden and firm, the birdlife just as prolific and the fantastic golf course at Jekyll is a pleasure to play. Spend 5 idyllic nights here before moving to Charleston, for 3 nights with a stop en route in Savannah GA. Photogenic Charleston is the queen of the USA’s southern cities, with unspoiled architecture, great restaurants and magnificent plantations nearby. Enjoy special town tours and a visit and luncheon at Magnolia Plantation.
